EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. — To help maintain the characteristic pine cover here, the National Park Service implemented a prescribed fire program to help burn off undergrowth like this, some of which consists of seedlings and saplings of hardwood trees that would replace the pines given a chance.
