EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK, Fla. — Eco Pond forms the heart of an artificial wetland in the park. Much of the water originates from the Flamingo Wastewater Treatment Plant, but the wetland serves many other species in addition to ourselves. If you look in the notch at the back of the pond, you’ll see one of the locals — a great egret (Ardea alba). (David M. Lawrence)
